Atlassian Governance & Migration Readiness

Understand what is in Jira and Confluence before a migration or cleanup turns hidden complexity into downtime.

Jira and Confluence grow through useful local decisions: another custom field, workflow, app, permission scheme or space. Years later, a migration or governance project has to determine which of those decisions still matter. Counting projects is easy. Understanding ownership, dependencies and business impact is the real work.

Sanestly builds a decision-ready inventory of the instance, identifies configuration debt and maps the risks that affect migration, consolidation or ongoing administration. We focus on evidence and ownership, so cleanup is not reduced to deleting whatever looks old.

What you may be seeing

Signals that the workflow needs attention

  • Nobody can name the owner of many projects, spaces or workflows
  • Custom fields and schemes overlap but cannot be removed confidently
  • Marketplace apps or integrations create uncertain migration dependencies
  • Permissions have accumulated exceptions that are difficult to audit

The useful outcome

What changes after the work

  • An inventory organized by ownership, usage and dependency rather than raw object count
  • A risk register for migration blockers, sensitive content and unsupported behavior
  • A governance model for creating, changing and retiring shared configuration
  • A sequenced remediation and migration-readiness backlog

How we approach it

A narrow investigation before a broad implementation

We combine configuration exports, platform data and stakeholder interviews. Usage alone does not decide what stays: a rarely used workflow may support a critical process, while a heavily referenced field may be safe to consolidate. Every recommended change records the evidence and the owner who can approve it.

For migration readiness, we review app dependencies, identity and access, automation, integrations, data volume, archived content and known feature differences. The output supports planning and vendor discussions, but it does not pretend that every behavior can be proven without a test migration.

  1. Inventory the estate

Collect projects, spaces, schemes, fields, workflows, apps, automations, permissions and integrations.

  2. Establish ownership

Link configuration and content to current teams, business processes and decision makers.

  3. Assess migration risk

Identify unsupported behavior, app dependencies, access concerns, data volume and cleanup candidates.

  4. Plan remediation

Sequence safe cleanup, governance changes, test migration and validation with explicit approvals.

Deliverables

What you receive

Common questions

Before we start

Do we need to be migrating to use this service?

No. The same inventory and ownership work supports permission cleanup, administration standards and consolidation even when no migration date is set.

Will you delete unused fields and spaces?

Not during discovery. We identify candidates and dependencies, then require an owner decision, export or rollback route, and a separately approved change plan.

Can you guarantee every app will work after migration?

No. We document vendor support, configuration dependencies and test requirements. A representative test migration is the reliable way to validate critical behavior.

Start with the evidence

Show us the failure, the systems involved, and what a correct outcome looks like.

We will reply with the first useful diagnostic step and tell you if the work does not fit this service.
